YAI Metro Gig

Just got home from the Sydney gig. They always lift at the Metro. Awesome performance. Pretty much the same setlist as last week's shows.

Points to note;
- Davey choosing to play with YAI in Sydney rather than Crowded House in Perth. If only footy players were that loyal
- Timmy sporting a headband and lookng very Keef-like
- Nice 'tache Andy; a nod & wink to Movember
- A packed Metro going off & getting behind the boys. I love that venue. Its a teired set up so the sight lines are uninterrupted all the way to the back
- The support band was actually louder than YAI - couldn't make out what the hell the emo kids were singing about. YAI sounded much clearer with less volume.
- Punkarella was played, much to the delight of the drunken louts who kept shouting it after every song.
- Tim getting amongst the crowd for Purple Sneakers
- No moshing or crowd surfing!

Tim's parting comment "we may not be around forever but at least we were fucking here!!"

it was truely awesome, they all seemed in great spirits which is always great to see, we even got some banter from andy......

I dont know what to make of Which Hats, they have got massive raps and they all seemed massively talented but something just didnt work. I think it may have been the lifelessness of them, they were so busy trying to make wierd sounds out of their instruments they forgot to connect with the crowd.......
One of the lyrics went; "Uncle, Uncle, Uncle, your dads brother is your uncle!"

Showing my age hey....and I was able to lean on the railings inside the Metro, thus allowing me to leave my zimmer frame in the foyer!

Can anyone tell me who the mystery guest in the tight red pants was last night who closed the show with the boys? By that stage i couldn't hear clearly enough to catch his name and we couldn't work it out.
Excellent gig, fine choice of set list, loved every minute.

That was Steve Lucas from 70s Aussie punk band X. He co-wrote Degenerate Boy (which they played last night) with Steve on lead vocals.

Tim said that Degenerate Boy was one of the covers YAI played in the early days. I guess the other link is that that song (performed by Mak of Cain) was a prominent track in the Idiot Box film.

I found it a little disappointing... it was certainly a good gig, but not like the great gigs I've seen from them in the past. I kinda felt they were going through the motions a little bit...

Could have just been the shitty sound ruining it for me, though.

Couldn't disagree more re: going through the motions. The boys looked like they were having a hell of a time, really enjoying themselves and there were smiles and kisses all round!

Thought the sound could have been a tad better. From my position on the front barricade it just seemed it was way too loud. It started off ok bit it felt like at one point they just decided to crank the volume to an ear-shattering level.

Anyway, it was a top gig, really great crowd at a top venue.

Official set-list (I snagged one at the end):

Ain't Gone
Watchya Doin' To Me
Arse Kickin' Lady
What They Do At Night
Mr Kermode
Minor Byrd
The Sweet Life
Thuggery
Gunslingers
Nifty Lil Number
Good Mornin'
It Aint Funny
Rumble
Berlin Chair
Junk
Get Up
Constance George
Purple Sneakers
Degenerate Boy
...........................
Punkarella
How Much Is Enough?
Thank God....

Have been a voyeur for some time - now first time poster. Was at the Metro gig and had a rollicking time. Thought Tim and the band had fun too - lots of smiles and banter. (Roadie even got a kiss from Tim!). Especially loved the moments where Tim leaned into crowd and sung and played his geetar. Have seen YAI many times over the years - and I always love Tim's stage presence and wild rock star ways... lots of cheeky banter with the crowd - eg. pointing to his wrist (to indicate his watch) and saying to member of the crowd "your on Tim time now!" with a cheeky look on his face!
Giggled at others first impressions of Steve Lucas - as we had them too - but were REALLY impressed with his voice - with the band (and Tim) going off during the song.
Was wondering what others thought of the ending of the gig - we thought there was a definate (and scary) 'feel' that it might be the end??? Tim seemed especially moved - even motioned 'tears' down his cheeks - and the band seemed to linger at the end.....

would also love to see pics and footage from Fri night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
