Charlie's Good Tonight - Part One, Two & Three

Postby sqrnookle on Sat Mar 06, 2010 5:01 pm

So this morning RRR played part one of the Charlie's Good Tonight concert (the tribute show of the Stones' Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! with Tim, Davey and Ian Kitney of the 'Union, along with a few other good folk), and I was lucky enough to capture that stream.

The setlist for part one is as follows:
-Jumpin' Jack Flash
-Carol
-Stray Cat Blues
-Love In Vain
-Under My Thumb
-Prodigal Son
-Midnight Rambler

You can download it here. It's a ~32mb 128kBps mp3 (same quality as the original stream), with as much of the station chatter and idents cut out, albeit roughly in a few places. I may do a 'complete concert' file once part two has aired, and make the edits much smoother, but I think people just wanna hear it for now. :)

Huh. So it turns out today was part two... of three. For some reason I just assumed it'd only be two parts!

Upload coming soon for those who missed it. :)

So without any further ado - Charlie's Good Tonight part two!

(hey, that rhymes!)

Setlist:
-Sympathy For The Devil
-Live With Me
-Little Queenie

You can download part two here. Since it's a shorter extract than last week's it's only ~13mb, and same quality deal. Thankfully not interrupted by constant show idents, so it's just smooth going. :)

After next week's final part I'll create one complete mp3 of the whole concert, as well as downloads for each individual track (if people want them). But for now, enjoy!

(oh, and can a mod amend the title of the thread to 'Parts One and Two' please? Ta.)

And at last, part three! Mods, I know you just changed it, but if you'd be so kind to do it once more, that'd be swell. :)

Setlist:
-Honky Tonk Women
-Street Fighting Man
-Satisfaction
--------------
-Gimme Shelter
-Brown Sugar

You can get it here.

Coming soon: a super-edit of all three parts together, for those who want it. Plus, anyone who wants any specific songs on their own, just let me know and I'll set it up for you! :)

(oh, and if anyone has a decent-sized digital copy of the poster they could throw to me (only been able to find a small image so far), I'd love to make some proper-sized artwork...)

I'd most definitely be interested. Thanks again! Oh wow, I can't believe I'm listening Tim singing "Gimme Shelter" - it's sooo very good!

Thanks heaps for doing that sqrnookle. Is it possible to divide the tracks individually or would that be too much work?

A question to you, and politics, and whoever else knows how to do these things. What methods do you use to record off the radio and do you find it satisfactory? What's the best method? Thanks.

Now that Uni's cooled off a bit, I'll get back to doing the super-long version*, and I'm happy to do individual tracks from that. :)

There's two main ways I've found to record radio: the first is to get a good radio (with a good antenna and reception), take the audio out into your computer and record that on the computer. Pros: good quality, direct. Cons: if reception varies or is bad the quality suffers (either with static or the stereo field collapses). The second is to use software (like VLC Player) to transcode streaming radio off the 'net. It can be difficult (stations are getting better at hiding the file to be streamed inside java applets and the like), and the quality depends on your 'net connection and what quality they broadcast it at. You can also do a variation of the two - listen to the streaming radio, but record it using programs which record any sound your computer makes. The big problem with that is *any* other sound your computer makes (mouseclicks, alarms, etc) will be picked up too.
______
*by the way - for those interested in having one whole continuous file, would you prefer it with a few minor cuts here and there so it'll fit on one CD, or having it whole and unexpurgated?

There's a way around that (i think). If you are using a PC click on the volume icon in the system tray and mute 'windows sounds'.
