I have a friend in Newy begging me to come up - depends on how all goes in Gong and how I feel the next day....it may be a goer for me as well....

We could rent a bus - take a crowd!

From the You Am I Newcastle show Facebook event, posted by Queens Wharf Brewery:

"Due to unforseen circumstances, Gun Street Girls will be unable to perform as the support for You Am I this month......but, we are pleased to announce that local act, The Nickson Wing have graciously stepped into their shoes :-)"

Damn! Nickson Wing are pretty good though.

For those attending the free Newcastle gig on Saturday, be sure to get there early. A note has been put up on the Facebook page for it saying that its only a limited capacity.

Gates open 2pm, Nickson Wing on at 3.30pm.

Should I just go so I can stop at Tuggerah to get Red Rooster? It's even hard to find a RR in Sydney. It's non existent in my town.

First time post for me. Off to Corinbank on Sunday, can't wait! Have been listening to lots of You Am I this week in preparation and anticipation, all albums. Even the latest three are sounding good, better than ever, though Hourly, Daily and #4 will always be my faves... Paragon Cafe perhaps all time top song, or Berlin Chair, depending on mood.... also rate Thank God I've Hit The Bottom right up there, due to stunning live performance of it ANU just after convicts came out, was fierce, cathartic, brilliant. Will be interesting to see what tunes they squeeze in to a one hour festival set in the mountains, amongst the gum trees. Last time I saw them was ANU after Dilletantes was released, awful sound quality that night. Lost count of how many times I have seen them altogether, have been many fabulous nights, plus some very ordinary, but I know on Sunday night there is no place I would rather be than out in front of Tim and the band!

Cracker of a gig in Newcastle yesterday. Nice chilled setting on the wharf and the boys played a top little show to 900 people (apparently). Strangely, the venue didnt remove any tables from the wharf so there was a mass of people in front of the stage then people sitting at tables behind them. If I'm wrong, someone correct me on this as I was right at the front and couldnt quite see all the way back there.

The Nickson Wing opened and did a tight 30 minute set, and YAI came on at 5.30pm, playing until just after 630pm (Tim mentioned they were on a strict time limit). For this reason, there wasn't a whole lot in the way of stage banter, methinks the band was concentrating on playing as many songs as possible in the time they were given, but they looked to be enjoying themselves. Tim calling Mardi Gras "gay Christmas" and asking Rusty when he was going to stop being so homophobic was hilarious though.

Setlist (was on the barricade so managed to grab one):

Rumble
Frightfully Moderne
Deliverance ("Davey and I wrote this one, its dedicated to the amphetimene dealers of Surrey Hills")
Who Put the Devil... ("from Silverchair to Motley Crue")
Cathys Clown
ROSEDALE (!!!!!!!!! I seriously nearly shat my pants) ("Before last night in Wollongong, we hadn't played this in 18 years, but we wanted to play it in Wollongong and Newcastle because these were the first places we gained an audience")
Wankers
Good Morning (with a tid bit of Rollover DJ by Jet thrown in)
Junk
Nothings Ever Gonna Be the Same Again (dedicated to Ruby)
Givin Up Getting Fat
Jewels and Bullets
Gunslingers
It Aint Funny
Berlin Chair
Piano Up The Tree

Rhie was that you front and centre? If so I was about 5 people to your left.

Fun times, my ears were still ringing at 11pm last night.

The guys had a private gig back in Sydney that night, thus the hurriedness in Newcastle.

Wollongong to Newcastle to Sydney in two days - uhm, yeah, that's mighty fine tour planning there....yep.

Glad you enjoyed it Mr K!

Ged, I misread "private gig" as "private jet" and got confused for a sec there.

No, I'm the one with a private jet......too bad it's in Canada. I could use it sometimes.

Corinbank show tonight was superb. Much the same songs as that set list from a couple of nights back. Plenty of stage banter including Tim saying "I hate hippies but they put on a good festival" ... I'd been wondering all along how they'd fit in at Corinbank as it is very hippy-ish, anyway they went down a treat with everyone there, despite plenty of cool mountain rain during their set. I enjoyed every minute and every song, but especially Cathy's Clown, as that is an old favorite of mine and one I hadn't seen them play for many years. Long live You Am I! I can't imagine not seeing 'em every year or two, truly is one of the greatest pleasures of life, 'specially when they're in good form, as tonight.
